Ambassador of Kindness
Herb "Flight Time" Lang
A devoted family man and father of three, Herb Lang’s ethos is grounded in kindness, as reflected in his mantra, #kindnessisfree. He believes in the transformative power of compassion and attributes his success to the support and trust of others. Lang’s philosophy resonates deeply as he finds beauty in life’s struggles, emphasizing that true success lies in the lives one touches rather than the wealth amassed. Herbert Lang’s journey from humble beginnings in Brinkley, Arkansas, to international acclaim is a testament to his unwavering dedication and talent. His prowess on the basketball court was evident as he led the Trans-America Athletic Conference in scoring and clinched victory in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Slam Dunk Contest on ESPN at the 1998 NCAA final four in San Antonio. This led to an invitation from the Globetrotters’ training camp in 1999, where he spent 18 years as both player and coach, traversing nearly 100 countries and engaging with influential dignitaries worldwide. Lang’s adventurous spirit also propelled him onto television screens, where he captivated audiences on hit shows like The Amazing Race and Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader, just to name a few. His captivating journey is chronicled in his recently-published memoir, “Projects, Popes, and Presidents,” offering readers a glimpse into his extraordinary experiences of turning obstacles into opportunities. Adding to his multifaceted career, Lang recently wrapped filming for “Sweetwater,” where he embodies the role of “Babe” Pressley, a former Harlem Globetrotter who became one of the first African Americans to sign an NBA Contract. On February 7, 2023, Lang was honored and recognized at the NBA G League’s Wisconsin Herd Black History Month Celebration as one of thirteen past and living leaders who have made significant impacts in U.S. history. Herb dedicates time to nurturing young talent through sports clinics and keeps busy speaking to youth and adults worldwide.
